Chilling Out

By Silhouettes · June 18, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

Some days you just need to relax. At least, I do. I just want to put on some comfortable clothes (that don’t make me look like a slob), lie on the couch, and read a book. Or maybe I have to run an errand, but don’t feel like getting too dressed up. But there’s a fine line between comfortable and TOO comfortable (aka sweatpants), so I’m always on the lookout for lounging clothes that still make me look like I care.

I’ve found some great stuff in the Simply Me ™ collection. It's plus size clothing for women who just want to be comfortable.

Two items that I love are the plus size yoga pants and the Simply Me ™ cocoon tunic. Paired together they are great for a Saturday around the house. The pants work for exercise or just lounging, and you can wear the top with jeans if you want to dress it up a little bit. Also, this organic cotton tank top makes me think of hot summer days in a hammock, dozing under a tree.

But Simply Me ™ isn’t all for lounging. This flattering swing skirt is breezy and fun for wearing around town, and so is this knit plus-size maxi dress. I love feeling light and feminine in the summer, and both of these pieces work for that—comfortable and stylish at the same time.

So, take a few minutes sometime this week to throw on some really comfortable clothes and relax—you totally deserve it!

Lovin’ Linen

By Silhouettes · June 16, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

Okay, so I’ve already talked about how much I love summer. But yeah, it can be HOT. Cold drinks, air conditioning, swimming: all great ways to beat the heat. But what about when you’re at work, or running errands? Well, what you’re wearing can make a BIG difference. Linen is the best kind of summer fabric. It’s light, really breathable, and classic without being stuffy. Plus size linen pants are a great way to stay cool. They’re a little dressier (and a lot cooler) than jeans. And they come in natural colors and styles that you can pair with just about anything. I like to wear natural-colored linen pants with some great wooden earrings and a wooden beaded necklace, but they work great with gold or silver, too. Check out these awesome plus size linen pants from Gillian Grey ™. They come in a bunch of colors and are perfect for summer. Another casual option are these cropped linen pants, which look great with a tee and sandals and give your legs some breathing room. But it’s not all about pants. There are a bunch of really beautiful tunic tops, jackets, and plus size linen dresses here, too. This Gillian Grey ™ A-line dress is one of my favorites. Perfect for a summer wedding, and since it’s a neutral, some great shoes (like these pink flats!) or a stunning piece of jewelry would really pop. Make sure to take a look at all of the linen pieces. It really is the perfect summer fabric!

Free Your Toes!

Today we’re going to talk about one of my favorite things: shoes! As a plus size woman, the way clothes fit is a big deal. You have to find flattering cuts, think about comfort and style, size, and how the clothes fit your body. But shoes? They’re a lot a simpler. You can wear almost any style without thinking about it too much. Usually you only have to worry about the weather. So, now that summer is here, I’ve put my cute boots away in the closet and taken out the flip-flops and slides. Hooray for free toes and pretty nail polish! Plus it’s always easier to just slip your feet into slides in the morning—putting on tights and boots just takes longer. Two of my favorite kinds of summer shoes are the slides I already mentioned and espadrilles. I need a wide width shoe, but fortunately silhouettes.com has plenty of those. Tons of cute styles in the right sizes. I love the Knot Wedge Espadrille (currently on sale). It goes great with basically everything: skirts, capris, shorts, jeans, or casual dresses. The canvas is soft, so the top doesn’t cut into your feet, it’s got peep toes (show off that pedi!), and the low heel is really flattering. The other shoe I want to highlight for right now is this fun Button Slide that’s on sale for only $16! (For that price, you can stock up on all the colors.) The pink ones are especially fun. These slides go great with almost every kind of outfit, too, and the patent leather shine really makes them stand out. So, what are you waiting for?

Go find some new shoes!

Beach weather is on the way!

Memorial day has passed and you know what that means.... Summer fun, warm weather and the beach...  It’s time to gear up for SUMMER! (Yeah, we’re a little bit excited about that).

Anyway, warm weather means it’s time to start thinking about bathing suits, sand, and sun. Summer getaways are the best, and whether you’re hopping in the car and driving to the shore, or getting on a plane and flying to the French Riviera, you need (and probably want) new swimwear.

Trying on swimwear can be a pain, but it doesn’t have to be. You can order fun, flirty plus size swimsuits to try on in the comfort of your home. All of the swimsuit styles are designed to fit and fully support plus size women.

Don’t forget sun protection! In addition to women’s plus size swimwear, we also have stylish cover-ups and shorts to help shade your skin when you’ve had enough for the day and feel your best on the beach.

So, pack your swimsuit, your cover-up, your flip-flops and your sunscreen and plan the perfect waterfront escape. There’s nothing better than putting on a new bathing suit that makes you feel great and enjoying a few days or weeks of relaxation at the beach.

Dresses to Take You Anywhere

I was in Chicago recently and I couldn’t help but notice all the women in fun spring and summer dresses. They are really in style this season and I was determined to go get a few for myself.

Versatile is the perfect word to describe these dresses!

These plus size summer dresses are perfect because you can wear them anywhere. Shopping in the city, out for lunch with the girls, out to dinner with that special someone, on vacation, to summer weddings—or even just on a trip to the grocery store or running other errands. Basically it all depends on the accessories you choose to pair them with. Add gold or silver jewelry and heels to plus size summer dresses for a more “dressed-up” look. Scale down the jewelry and go with flats if you want to go more casual.

Some of the dresses you should check out include this floral skirt dress (pair with leggings for a super-trendy look), our poplin dress (style central), or this t-shirt dress (can you say “comfortable”). But of course there are a lot more women’s plus size dresses, including a big selection of plus size maxi dresses.

Expand your summer wardrobe with a few great pieces that can take you anywhere, all designed to fit and flatter!
