Oh, the maxi dress. A revival of this particular style was long overdue. These long, flowing dresses are cool, comfortable, trendy, and just all-around easy to wear. I’ll throw one on for a summer Sunday afternoon at the park, wear one downtown for an evening meal with friends, or put one on while I head out for a daytrip with friends.
Silhouettes.com features a whole selection of plus-size maxi dresses in the “trends” section that I’m currently in love with. The aqua embroidered maxi dress is one of my favorites. The embroidery is so pretty and fun! (As is the color.) There is smocking on the back and the straps are adjustable, so you can tailor it to fit your particular body type.
Another great maxi dress is this beautiful printed one. I love the design. The empire waist is especially flattering, and since the straps are wide, you can wear a regular bra.
The bra thing is actually one of the challenges when wearing a maxi dress. If you are bigger on top, you need more support than those thin straps can provide. If that’s the case for you, you should look at these two options, both of which offer fuller coverage and sleeves. The first is the Tie-Dye Maxi Dress in coral, and the second is this beautiful paisley-print peasant maxi dress. The peasant style adds a fun 60s-style twist.
