With winter dragging on, it’s time to think of fun things to do to brighten your days (or nights). How ‘bout a crazy-themed party? A completely unorganized potluck with friends (just see what shows up)? Or maybe just some drinks and dinner in front of a warm fireplace?
When you’re ready to step out for some fun, part of the point is dressing yourself up and making yourself feel great. A couple of ideas:
Patent boots. These sexy, sassy boots will immediately lessen the winter blahs. They work with jeans, pants or skirts, and they shine like nobody’s business. Plus, they’re comfortable and easy to wear.
Haven’t seen the sun lately? No worries. This eye-catching gold cocktail ring shines just about as brightly and will make people sit up and take notice.

When you want a loose-fitting style that’s also flattering and chic, one word to look for is “swing.” Swing means exactly what it sounds like—a loose flowing piece of clothing that swings around your body.
Swing style can apply to long-sleeve shirts like this one, which is made of a soft rayon that drapes around you beautifully without clinging.
Swing can also apply to jackets. This one is professional while still floating around you in a stylish way. The weight and fabric is really good for “transitional weather” (think spring).
And finally, you’ve can get a swing tee, like this one. The style is pretty and feminine, and the diagonal stripes add a cool touch. The ¾ sleeves also make this a good option for spring days or winter layering.
It’s swing time!

It doesn’t hurt to think ahead (and ignore the winter for a bit) … so today I want to point out four plus-size tunic tops that will work for you throughout the spring. When it gets too warm for one, it’s time to move on to the next!
February – Stay warm and snug in this cozy velvet tunic top. It’s soft, flattering, and so perfect to wear this winter with jeans or other pants. Make it dressy or casual depending on your mood.
March – This plus-size scoop-neck tee comes in four color combos that will stand out as the weather (hopefully) gets a little bit warmer. The gathered scoop neck and three-quarter sleeves make it great for layering, too.
April – This pretty, chiffon tunic is the perfect top to celebrate the return of spring! The bright colors, light fabric, and embellished neckline add tons of fun flair.
May – Time to bear arms! You’ll be ready for warm spring sunshine in this flowing sleeveless swing shirt that clings in all the right places. Enjoy being warm and stylish as you swing into summer!

Now that the new year has come and gone, the gyms are packed with people who have resolved to get healthy in 2011. I don’t have a specific resolution, but I do want to keep up my gym routine, and I find myself more excited about going to the gym when I have new clothes. It’s a little confidence boost!
These yoga pants are the kind of thing I love to wear to the gym. Incredibly comfortable, not too baggy, great for the treadmill or a yoga class. And not bad for lounging around the house, either!
This knit cami is another great piece for the gym or to wear while chilling at home on the weekend.
If you need some motivation, getting a few new pieces of clothing to wear to the gym might be just the ticket! (It is for me, anyway.)

Styles that are showing up on the runways and in clothing stores this winter are military-inspired styling and a more androgynous look. “Androgynous” in this case means something like “neither masculine nor feminine in appearance.”
However, most women I know do want to appear feminine when they choose clothing, so one way to incorporate some of the new fashion trends into your wardrobe is to choose “boyfriend” pieces. Boyfriend is just a looser style that still shows off your feminine side.
Some examples of boyfriend styles include this cardigan, a warm and soft piece that keeps you comfortable in changing temperatures, this light v-neck tunic that’s perfect for layering, and these loose-fitting incredibly comfortable boyfriend jeans.
To incorporate a military-inspired look into your clothing options, go with something like this military sweater vest. It’s got button-trimmed lapels and cool epaulettes for that military flair.

Ruffles have been a big hit in the last year, and they continue to be a hot trend in 2011. They bring fun feminine accents to almost any piece of clothing, so no wonder they’re so popular!
While you don’t want to go overboard with the ruffles, there are great pieces out there that help bring just the right amount of rufflage (my new word!) into your clothing options.
This layered ruffle blouse is perfect for a party or night-out. With fitted jeans or leggings, you get the feminine look of ruffles paired with a more simple pant.
Another great shirt to wear with leggings or fitted jeans is this pretty ruffle shirt, which you can dress up or down depending on the situation.
And this flattering ruffle sleeve dress gives you just a touch of flair without going ruffle-crazy. Plus the fabric and style make this dress great for travel—just throw it in your suitcase, pull it out at your destination and you’re on your way!

Sometimes it’s fun to bring back old styles and get retro for a bit. Want to release your inner love child and go back in time? These 60s-inspired pieces are just the thing to make you feel peace and happiness.
This beautiful embroidered plus-size blouse is light and airy and feminine, with a cool empire-waist style. The crochet detail at the neck and sleeves adds a nice touch of hippie-inspired flair.
The peasant blouse is an old favorite, and this updated version is great for any season. In the winter, pair it with long pants, boots and flats, or maybe a skirt.
Now you just need some bell bottoms and beads and you’re on your way back to the 60s!

Cardigans are the perfect layering piece—great for cool days in the spring, great to wear when the house or office is cold in the winter (or the summer), and good for fall, too.
Since cardigans are all the rage these days, they’re pretty easy to find. But here are a few specific options for different occasions.
First, this novelty stitch cardigan. This one isn’t for staying completely warm—it’s more to add some style and flair to your look. (This is also washable, which is awesome and really rare when you’re talking about a crochet-style like this.) Wear this over fitted shirts or sweaters, and pair it with jeans, pants or long skirts.
Another fun style is this bolero cardigan (bolero refers to the open-front style). Bolero-style sweaters are especially great for pairing with dresses.
And for basic warmth and style, this simple cotton v-neck cardigan is a good addition to your wardrobe and can be worn with just about anything (except maybe a formal dress). It’s especially nice with a t-shirt and jeans.
If none of those are your style, you can check out lots more plus size cardigans here.
If you’re going with new clothes for 2011, then new shoes must be close behind. It’s a little too cold to think about sandals here (although I am anyway), but there are tons of shoe options for work or play that are appropriate for the upcoming colder months.
These faux-leather button Maryjanes are an awesome option for winter weather. Cute and still practical and great for lots of casual looks.
Microsuede wedge heels are another cool look for winter 2011—and you can wear these with your work outfits or out on the town. This pair has a fun rosette for added flair.
Sleek and shiny patent snowflake boots make a good addition to your winter boot wardrobe. These work best in rain and look great with just about any pair of pants.
What other shoes are you hoping to add to your closet this winter?
