So, now that we’re headed for colder weather, there’s nothing like a good book to read while you’re all curled up on the couch in a comfy sweater.
Some picks for this fall that I’ve recently had a chance to read:
Faith – Jennifer Haigh
A story about the Catholic sexual abuse scandal in Boston, this book kept me guessing while treating the subject with tact and sensitivity. It’s a tough subject, but Jennifer Haigh does a great job at creating characters and a story that make you care and keep you turning pages until you find out exactly what happened.
Then Came You – Jennifer Weiner
Jennifer Weiner is known for being one of the better chick lit authors out there, but she’s going for a deeper more intense type of book here. The main characters are all women, and they’re all dealing with issues relating to reproduction: surrogacy, infertility and egg donation. It’s interesting the way that Weiner weaves all their stories together as they each deal with their own circumstances.
The Leftovers—Tom Perotta
A bunch of people are “raptured”…but it’s not the religious people, it’s just random people. So what does it mean? Perotta looks at what life would be like after such an event and how society would change (and stay the same). A fascinating story.
