Boho Beauty

So what is bohemian clothing, exactly? I mean, I thought I knew, but I wanted to be sure before I started writing about it! So I checked: basically it’s anything with a gypsy casual flair. Ruffles and prints and flowing sleeves and skirts.

I discovered a bunch of plus-size women’s bohemian clothes on Silhouettes.com, so I wanted to talk about them. These bohemian clothes are in the “trends” section, because they are very in style right now!

So here are the plus-size boho clothes I’m eyeing up in order to make them my very own. First, this embroidered sleeve tunic. LOVE IT! The bell sleeves are beautifully embroidered and so is the neckline. It goes great over jeans, and it’s so chic.

Second, this beautiful printed tunic. I love the hippie look and the flattering flow of this plus size tunic, especially the way it skims your curves.

And finally, this plus size boho tiered floral dress. The different prints all work together and give it a really fun (and really unique) appearance. I like the cool shirring between sections, too.

So there are some great examples of boho beauty. Embrace your inner gypsy!

“Maxi”-mum Style

Oh, the maxi dress. A revival of this particular style was long overdue. These long, flowing dresses are cool, comfortable, trendy, and just all-around easy to wear. I’ll throw one on for a summer Sunday afternoon at the park, wear one downtown for an evening meal with friends, or put one on while I head out for a daytrip with friends.

Silhouettes.com features a whole selection of plus-size maxi dresses in the “trends” section that I’m currently in love with. The aqua embroidered maxi dress is one of my favorites. The embroidery is so pretty and fun! (As is the color.) There is smocking on the back and the straps are adjustable, so you can tailor it to fit your particular body type.

Another great maxi dress is this beautiful printed one. I love the design. The empire waist is especially flattering, and since the straps are wide, you can wear a regular bra.

The bra thing is actually one of the challenges when wearing a maxi dress. If you are bigger on top, you need more support than those thin straps can provide. If that’s the case for you, you should look at these two options, both of which offer fuller coverage and sleeves. The first is the Tie-Dye Maxi Dress in coral, and the second is this beautiful paisley-print peasant maxi dress. The peasant style adds a fun 60s-style twist.

Successful Accessorizing

You don’t need to visit a plus-size fashion blog to find accessories that fit. But if the plus-size fashion blog happens to have some awesome accessories, then you are in luck. And fortunately, Silhouettes.com has a bunch!

First, scarves. These are a wonderful accessory. Different and more versatile than necklaces, they look great and add color and style. The crinkled plaid is another fun scarf, but you don’t need to wait for fall to wear it. Scarves like this can easily be paired with summer t-shirts and dresses, especially if you’re going out on an evening that might be turn a little chilly.

Next, jewelry. Necklaces and earrings are key accessories that go with pretty much anything. Bracelets, especially the thicker ones like this set of 2 wooden bangles can be striking. And you can dress an outfit up or down just by adding jewelry. Try spicing up your t-shirt and jeans with this wood and chain necklace.

Finally, bags. Everyone needs a good bag (or several!) for daily use. I like the suede and patent bag for daily running around, and the leather weekender and studded canvas bag for when I feel like switching it up.

Now, go forth and accessorize!

Get Ruffled

One of the hottest trends right now are ruffles. So pretty and so feminine. I love wearing ruffled things when I’m feeling girly.

Silhouettes.com has a special “trends” section devoted to some very pretty ruffled pieces that work for summer and will go with you right into fall. Unlike crazy trends like leisure suits or enormous bell-bottoms, ruffles never really go out of fashion. They’re simple and classic enough to wear for months or even years!

One of the pieces I love is this crepe ruffled tiered plus size dress in pink (it’s also available in black). It fits really well and has a fun, almost “flapper” feel to it. You can pair it with heels or flats depending on the occasion.

This long, flowing, ruffled plus size Ombre skirt is another fun and cool look for summer. Spin around and make it stand out! The shading from light to dark is flattering and beautiful, and it would work great with flats or with these ruffled sandals.

Another really trendy look right now is the rosette. Like the ruffled look, it’s pretty, feminine and classic. This rosette tee is simple enough to pair with the Ombre skirt and matches beautifully. You could also wear it with jeans, another pair of pants, or a shorter skirt. For chilly nights, throw on the rosette cardigan. It goes with almost anything, especially in basic black.

Enjoy your ruffles and rosettes!

Sleep In Style

A little while ago I decided to make an investment in some sleepwear. Mostly I’d just been sleeping in big t-shirts, which were comfortable, but really blah. I needed a change.

Fortunately, I knew where to look for plus size pajamas and plus size sleepwear.

I’m a big fan of sleep shirts, and silhouettes.com has a bunch to choose from. I like the short sleep tee and this long sleep tee. Both are amazingly comfortable for sleeping and lounging around the house on the weekend (and, bonus, they come in a bunch of different colors, too!). Then, when I want something pretty and more feminine, I switch things up. This Flutter-sleeve gown is a nice addition to my sleepwear options. It’s long, but not too warm, since it’s cotton, and it has a the nice a-line shape that looks good on just about any body type. The Pintuck Gown is another really pretty choice. With the delicate embroidery and appliqué, it’s very delicate and feminine and fun.

And, for sleeping and laying around, nothing beats a great pair of lounge pants. I wear these plus size cotton lounge pants so much that I’ve had to buy multiple pairs. Some nights I can’t wait to get home and put these on to watch a movie and just chill.

So don’t have to limit yourself to boring old t-shirts or ratty old nightgowns! Upgrade your pajama/sleepwear wardrobe and feel great while you sleep, too.
