Sleep In Style

A little while ago I decided to make an investment in some sleepwear. Mostly I’d just been sleeping in big t-shirts, which were comfortable, but really blah. I needed a change.

Fortunately, I knew where to look for plus size pajamas and plus size sleepwear.

I’m a big fan of sleep shirts, and silhouettes.com has a bunch to choose from. I like the short sleep tee and this long sleep tee. Both are amazingly comfortable for sleeping and lounging around the house on the weekend (and, bonus, they come in a bunch of different colors, too!). Then, when I want something pretty and more feminine, I switch things up. This Flutter-sleeve gown is a nice addition to my sleepwear options. It’s long, but not too warm, since it’s cotton, and it has a the nice a-line shape that looks good on just about any body type. The Pintuck Gown is another really pretty choice. With the delicate embroidery and appliqué, it’s very delicate and feminine and fun.

And, for sleeping and laying around, nothing beats a great pair of lounge pants. I wear these plus size cotton lounge pants so much that I’ve had to buy multiple pairs. Some nights I can’t wait to get home and put these on to watch a movie and just chill.

So don’t have to limit yourself to boring old t-shirts or ratty old nightgowns! Upgrade your pajama/sleepwear wardrobe and feel great while you sleep, too.

Dress for Success

So…you’ve done it! You’ve sent in a stellar resume, maybe rocked a phone interview, and now it’s time for the big day… your JOB INTERVIEW.

Interviewing for jobs is stressful, because not only do you have to be “on,” you also have to look your best. And you can’t be worrying about clothes during your interview, when you’re trying to answer questions or impress a potential boss.

So, yeah, what do you wear? How can you look great and feel confident and all that good stuff, while concentrating on your answers and blowing an interviewer’s mind with how awesome you are?

The first rule of interviewing is DRESS UP. Jackets and pants or a skirt are the rule. The Gillian Grey ™ collection has some pieces that work really well for this. They’re stretchy and comfortable while still looking professional. Check out these plus size pants as an example. And the Gillian Grey ™ plus size blazer works perfectly with them.

Another option is to wear this jewel-neck tank underneath a solid-colored jacket. That adds a splash of color while still staying professional. And don’t forget your accessories. The key is simple, classic, understated jewelry. You don’t want to bling it up too much for this particular occasion.

If you can dress like a pro, you are well on your way to landing a great new job!

Going to the Chapel (and looking fabulous)

June was wedding month!

Well, kind of. For me, whole summers are wedding months. If my friends and family don’t show up on multiple guests lists, I’ll wear the same dress to more than one wedding, but sometimes you need multiple dresses since the same people are going to be at every event. (And really, I don’t have a problem buying more clothes!)

Anyway, there are two fantastic plus size dresses I want to point out to you. Now, I’ve posted about fun summer dresses before, but these two are for formal occasions, like an evening or black tie wedding. You can dress them up even more with some classic jewelry and hot shoes.

The first one is this Kimono Sleeve Dress. The detailing at the sleeves is amazing, because it adds a great sparkle that will catch the light on the dance floor or wherever you are. It’s a pullover style, super comfortable, but still classy enough for any formal occasion.

The second plus size formal dress I want to point out is this fabulous Tunic Dress. Easy-fit, can be work-wear if you need it to be. But pair it with a great necklace, this rhinestone bangle, and the perfect shoes, and you will be ready for an evening wedding, a dance, or just a great night out!

Summer “Panting”

Dog days of summer. Hot weather. You just need a cold drink and some air conditioning, but you also need some good, comfortable shorts. Or plus size capris. Or something other than long pants, which just add to the problem of being HOT. So here are my favorite picks for keeping my legs cool.

Capri leggings. These cotton/spandex capris are what I like to wear for running around the house or out to the gym. So comfortable and very cool. I throw on a long t-shirt and I’m set.

Cotton knit shorts. I love soft comfortable shorts like these. The length is great, too. But not baggy like other plus-size shorts can be sometimes. I wear them with t-shirts and sandals on summer days when I’m not at work. They have an elastic waist for an easy fit, and pockets to hold your essentials. If you’re into a longer length, but still want some breathing room, the plus size cotton knit capris are another good option.

Lightweight Capri jeans. Now you might think I’m completely nuts, but these jeans really are lightweight cotton denim. And they are capri length, which always makes a difference (at least to me). So check them out as a cooler summer option … and hey, they’ll transition into cooler days really well.

So sit back with your lemonade and stay cool this summer!

Chilling Out

Some days you just need to relax. At least, I do. I just want to put on some comfortable clothes (that don’t make me look like a slob), lie on the couch, and read a book. Or maybe I have to run an errand, but don’t feel like getting too dressed up. But there’s a fine line between comfortable and TOO comfortable (aka sweatpants), so I’m always on the lookout for lounging clothes that still make me look like I care.

I’ve found some great stuff in the Simply Me ™ collection. It's plus size clothing for women who just want to be comfortable.

Two items that I love are the plus size yoga pants and the Simply Me ™ cocoon tunic. Paired together they are great for a Saturday around the house. The pants work for exercise or just lounging, and you can wear the top with jeans if you want to dress it up a little bit. Also, this organic cotton tank top makes me think of hot summer days in a hammock, dozing under a tree.

But Simply Me ™ isn’t all for lounging. This flattering swing skirt is breezy and fun for wearing around town, and so is this knit plus-size maxi dress. I love feeling light and feminine in the summer, and both of these pieces work for that—comfortable and stylish at the same time.

So, take a few minutes sometime this week to throw on some really comfortable clothes and relax—you totally deserve it!
