Jacket Weather

By Silhouettes · October 27, 2010 · 0 Comments · 42 Views

Well, we can talk about sweater weather all we want, but the truth is, it’s nearly time to pull out the coats and jackets. And what’s more fun than a new coat? (Well, other than a trip to the beach). These are a few of my favorite jackets and coats for this winter:

-        The boiled wool jacket in beautiful fall colors is a great alternative to a blazer and will keep you very warm. You can’t wear this one as a winter coat, but it’s a great fall layering piece.

-        This faux leather cascade jacket is HOT! And the animal print collar just makes it even more stylish. Soft, warm and just a little bit bad, this is the must-have jacket for autumn and beyond.

-        The plus-size peacoat. The peacoat is always a classic, and this great coat is updated for plus sizes while still retaining all of its great style. It’s got a great feminine fit and plenty of colors to choose from.

Comfort and Style

It’s fun to find new clothes at any time of the year, and fall offers some wonderful options—things that can be both full of style and full of comfort at the exact same time. I’m always on the lookout for pieces like that!

One item that’s a fall staple is wide-leg pants. Adding some width to pant legs, like these do, balances out wider hips and thighs and is wonderfully slimming. These pants are also super comfortable.

Another comfortable piece that’s very in-style is this long checked skirt. It's bias cut, and it works so well with boots, a long sweater and a belt (another fall trend). The elasticized waist makes it extra easy-to-wear.

And finally, this swing jacket is great for the days before you have to break out the winter coat. It’s got an easy fit, animal print lining (very trendy), and you can wear it dressed up or dressed down.

Fun Fall Fashion Fads!

Okay, that was a lot of alliteration. But, hey, it’s fun. Let’s look at some of the ways you can be trendy without spending tons of money this fall.

Comfy, bulky sweaters are in! But the trouble with bulky sweaters is that they can bulk YOU up, too. Big sweaters have a way of minimizing your pretty curves. One way to solve that problem: add a belt! Yes, you can belt a sweater to give yourself some shape.

Got a plain old button-down or long-sleeved tee? Spice up your basics with some long, dangly earrings that sparkle. Your outfit can really pop.

Beige and tan are the new neutrals for fall. See about adding a few pieces in these hot colors to your wardrobe.

Add a hint of animal print. Little touches of wild print here and there can make you stand out.

Fall Color Showcase

I had to travel this week, and I noticed that leaves are already starting to change on some of the trees along the highway. Most are still green—but hints of red, orange and yellow are starting to poke through.

So…why not echo those colors in your fall wardrobe?

This burgundy embroidered dress is a great choice for fall and will take you right into winter. So cute and fun! Add some tall boots and you’ll have a dynamite look that you can wear out and about, to work, or wherever.

This plus size casual shirt comes in a variety of fall colors, from stripes to florals to solids. So throw it on with jeans for a fall weekend at home.

Corduroy is a classic fall fabric, and this coat makes great use of it. Lots of colors to choose from, and the collars, pleats, and velvet accents make it look great.

Keep your eyes peeled for more fun fall colors!

Seersucker Style

By Silhouettes · July 30, 2010 · 0 Comments · 11 Views

The word “seersucker” makes me think of old southern men in seersucker suits drinking mint juleps on their porches. I think because that’s the way it’s used in books I’ve read. But there’s a reason why people in the south wore seersucker—it’s the perfect warm weather fabric!

Seersucker is very light and made of woven cotton.  According to Wikipedia, “Seersucker is woven in such a way that some threads bunch together, giving the fabric a wrinkled appearance in places. This feature causes the fabric to be mostly held away from the skin when worn, facilitating heat dissipation and air circulation. It also means that pressing is not necessary.” (No ironing? Awesome!)

So there are plenty of seersucker options that aren’t suits!

Like this plus-size jacket. It’s the perfect warm weather jacket…if that’s not an oxymoron. Seriously, you can wear this thing on all but the hottest of days.

Next up, the pants. They do coordinate with the jacket, but you can wear them separately with a white tee or tank and still stay cool. Lightweight and very comfortable.

And if it’s still too hot for pants, the seersucker capris do the same job but give your legs some more breathing room.  Throw on a flowing white top and you are ready for the hottest summer weather.
