With the onset of chilly weather, it’s time to think about updating your winter work wardrobe. Basics like black pants, neutral colored sweaters, boots, and a coat are all important things to have so you can mix and match. Here are a few other outfits you might want to invest in—and then mix the pieces up to create multiple options.

Wide-leg drawstring pants with ruffled sleeve sweater:  These super-comfortable pants are perfect for work or at home—you can wear them all the time. Pair them with something like the ruffled sleeve sweater for a more professional look, or add a fitted top and cardigan for days around the house.

Tweed drawstring pants and tweed cascade jacket: These pants and jacket provide some building blocks for a ton of outfits! For wearing them together, just add a colorful turtleneck or other brightly colored blouse underneath. Separately they’re great neutral pieces that will go with almost anything else in your professional winter wardrobe.

Colorblock dress: This one isn’t pieces, but I still think it’s a great option. It’s very elegant and flattering, with an a-line shape and style, and the cobalt color blocks mixed with the black are striking. I recommend this for work or any kind of fancy social occasion.

Well, we can talk about sweater weather all we want, but the truth is, it’s nearly time to pull out the coats and jackets. And what’s more fun than a new coat? (Well, other than a trip to the beach). These are a few of my favorite jackets and coats for this winter:

-        The boiled wool jacket in beautiful fall colors is a great alternative to a blazer and will keep you very warm. You can’t wear this one as a winter coat, but it’s a great fall layering piece.

-        This faux leather cascade jacket is HOT! And the animal print collar just makes it even more stylish. Soft, warm and just a little bit bad, this is the must-have jacket for autumn and beyond.

-        The plus-size peacoat. The peacoat is always a classic, and this great coat is updated for plus sizes while still retaining all of its great style. It’s got a great feminine fit and plenty of colors to choose from.

Blazers are the fall essential that every professional woman needs. They pull together an outfit and give you a business look that’s feminine and stylish.

One fun trend that I’ve seen around lately is the “boyfriend” style clothes. Boyfriend clothes are the looser-fitting, comfortable pieces—like stuff you might swipe from your man when he leaves them lying around

Boyfriend-style pieces are nice for relaxing weekends, but they can be appropriate for work settings too, as long as they’re not too casual.

The boyfriend v-neck tunic is one of these adaptable pieces. It’s light cotton, so perfect even for days that are a little warm, especially if you’re spending time in air conditioning. It’s got a v-neck so you can layer it over a tank or cami. The khaki color works well with jeans, but you could also pair the other colors with khaki pants.
