Want a dress? This black boatneck dress is sexy and incredibly flattering with trim that shines. And this Surplice dress hugs the slim parts of your body to emphasize your curves in the best way possible. The red version is a head-turning favorite.

But if you’re thinking you’d rather go with pants and a hot top, there are so many options! Classic Dresses

By Silhouettes · February 2, 2011 · 0 Comments · 39 Views

I write a lot about trends and trendy clothes on here, because of course trends are fun and everyone wants to be in style. But you can always choose classic pieces, too. Classic pieces never go out of style and can stay in your closet for years…they are a great investment. Today, I’ll talk a bit about classic dresses. Look for my next post when I'll be discussing some other kinds of “classics.”

Some classic dresses…

Sleeveless Shift Dress. A shift dress like this can go anywhere, anytime. In winter, pair with a cardigan and tights. In summer, just throw on a pair of sandals. You can’t go wrong with a shift dress—you can dress it up with jewelry or dress it down for a casual night out.

Tank Dress. A tank dress is just a simple, fun summer piece that you can wear almost anywhere. A cardigan adds modesty if you’re somewhere like a church, and warmth if you’re out on a cool summer evening. Keep this dress in your closet and you’ll always have something to wear.

Sheath Dress. Get a version of this dress in black and you’ll be ready to go at a moment’s notice. Everyone needs a classic black dress. You can wear this to work, but you can also throw on a hot pair of heels and be ready to hit the town for a spontaneous night out.

Wear this status print shirt jacket over everything! Great for layering with a winter coat or wearing as a light jacket when the weather gets a little warmer. This kind of jacket can be great when you just need something to warm you up just a little bit.

This status print blouse comes in five fabulous designs. Simply pull it over your head and go. (Then watch heads turn!)

The Four Tops

By Silhouettes · January 24, 2011 · 0 Comments · 21 Views

It doesn’t hurt to think ahead (and ignore the winter for a bit) … so today I want to point out four plus-size tunic tops that will work for you throughout the spring. When it gets too warm for one, it’s time to move on to the next!

February – Stay warm and snug in this cozy velvet tunic top. It’s soft, flattering, and so perfect to wear this winter with jeans or other pants. Make it dressy or casual depending on your mood.

March – This plus-size scoop-neck tee comes in four color combos that will stand out as the weather (hopefully) gets a little bit warmer. The gathered scoop neck and three-quarter sleeves make it great for layering, too.

April – This pretty, chiffon tunic is the perfect top to celebrate the return of spring! The bright colors, light fabric, and embellished neckline add tons of fun flair.

May – Time to bear arms! You’ll be ready for warm spring sunshine in this flowing sleeveless swing shirt that clings in all the right places. Enjoy being warm and stylish as you swing into summer!

New Year Style Watch: Military and Boyfriend

By Silhouettes · January 17, 2011 · 0 Comments · 12 Views

Styles that are showing up on the runways and in clothing stores this winter are military-inspired styling and a more androgynous look. “Androgynous” in this case means something like “neither masculine nor feminine in appearance.”

However, most women I know do want to appear feminine when they choose clothing, so one way to incorporate some of the new fashion trends into your wardrobe is to choose “boyfriend” pieces. Boyfriend is just a looser style that still shows off your feminine side.

Some examples of boyfriend styles include this cardigan, a warm and soft piece that keeps you comfortable in changing temperatures, this light v-neck tunic that’s perfect for layering, and these loose-fitting incredibly comfortable boyfriend jeans.

To incorporate a military-inspired look into your clothing options, go with something like this military sweater vest. It’s got button-trimmed lapels and cool epaulettes for that military flair.

What are you doing New Year’s Eve?

By Silhouettes · December 29, 2010 · 0 Comments · 19 Views

Do you have a New Year’s party to attend? And the bigger question: do you have something to wear?

New Year’s Eve is a fun time to get glitzy and let your hair down. Something like this Sparkle top is a great idea—lots of colors, pair with black pants and you’re ready to go.

Another idea is something like this deep-v tunic, which you can accessorize with a fabulous necklace and pair with stand-out shoes, like these leopard print heels.

And this abstract print red and black tunic would be another great option, since it has the sparkling embellishments around the neckline to add that extra touch of pizzazz. Some black boots and a fun bag and you’re on your way!

See my vest

Vests are really enjoying a resurgence in popularity this season. I’m not talking about those cheesy-print vests from the early 90s; I’m referring to sophisticated and more grown-up looks that can really pull an outfit together.

Long vests are a great way to add some sophistication to an outfit. Pair a turtleneck, long-sleeved shirt or button down with a pair of jeans and then add a long vest over the entire ensemble. Some tall or ankle boots can finish this look off perfectly.

Another option is a cropped vest, like this one. It’s just a fun way to add some layers to your look.

Finally, if you want to get really fun, a sequined vest in a bold color or print can give you a hot look that won’t be matched by anyone else.

Fun Fall Fashion Fads!

By Silhouettes · October 4, 2010 · 0 Comments · 33 Views

Okay, that was a lot of alliteration. But, hey, it’s fun. Let’s look at some of the ways you can be trendy without spending tons of money this fall.

Comfy, bulky sweaters are in! But the trouble with bulky sweaters is that they can bulk YOU up, too. Big sweaters have a way of minimizing your pretty curves. One way to solve that problem: add a belt! Yes, you can belt a sweater to give yourself some shape.

Got a plain old button-down or long-sleeved tee? Spice up your basics with some long, dangly earrings that sparkle. Your outfit can really pop.

Beige and tan are the new neutrals for fall. See about adding a few pieces in these hot colors to your wardrobe.

Add a hint of animal print. Little touches of wild print here and there can make you stand out.

Printed Fun

By Silhouettes · September 3, 2010 · 0 Comments · 21 Views

Prints! Some people love ‘em, others prefer to stick with solid colors. I definitely come down on the side of prints (of course it depends on what the print looks like); I think printed pieces are always a good way to spice up your wardrobe.

Printed plus-size shirts or blouses with solid pants are one way to incorporate prints into your wardrobe. This printed tiered top with georgette layers not only has a fun black and white print, but is flirty and feminine at the same time.

And this wrinkle-resistant short-sleeved shirt comes in a variety of fun prints that work with jeans. Throw it on over a tank top, cami, or short-sleeved t-shirt for a splash of color.

Printed skirts can make a statement, too. This plus-size Gillian Grey ™ circle skirt comes in fierce leopard print that you can pair with the leopard print top, or wear with a solid colored shirt. And for a fun feminine print, try the contrast ruffle skirt.

Wherever you stand on prints, it can't hurt to have a few in your wardrobe. Go have some fun!

Outtakes

Okay, most of the time when I write these blog posts, I have trends I like to highlight. But this post isn’t going to be a neat little package of style, because I have some odds and ends to show you.

(Basically, I’m just going to point out some awesome stuff that I like.)

For example, this smock-neck top and tiered skirt is so much fun. A great mix of casual, feminine, and chic. Perfect for vacations, day trips, and casual weekends. You can separate the pieces or wear them together—and they’re both cotton jersey and washable. The blouse is off-the-shoulder, which is a great way to frame your face.

Classic leggings are a good basic piece for any wardrobe, and these plus-size leggings are perfect for wearing under long tunic tops and shorter dresses. Leggings are very “in” right now, and while some brave girls choose to pair them with short t-shirts, most people prefer a little more coverage! But with the right top, leggings can work for almost anyone.
