To complement your hats and bags, everyone needs a pair of strappy sandals. So beach-y and casual, fun to wear on the boardwalk or to the shops.

Strappy sandals come in different varieties. One such variety are “t-straps” (which are named for their design. Obvious, right?) Anyway, t-straps are super trendy right now, but always classic. These rhinestone-embellished pairs make a perfect compliment to your maxi dresses and beach coverups, and they come in a bunch of colors.

Cage sandals are named for their design, too. A cage for your foot! It doesn’t SOUND great, but they look pretty awesome and are one of this spring and summer’s trendiest look.

And gladiator sandals have been hot for a couple of seasons, but they don’t show signs of going out of fashion. This pair has a jewel embellishment that makes them sparkle.

Leggings and … ?

I recently saw a question on another website asking about the best shoes to wear with skinny jeans or leggings-if you’re not wearing boots. The asker got a number of responses and the women all agreed that flats, especially of the ballet variety, are the best choice, with other flat shoes like flip-flops coming in second.

So, if you don’t like boots or just want to switch things up when you wear a tunic-legging combo, check out these flat shoe options:

Suede ballet flats with a quilted top are soft and comfortable. Plus they come in a ton of colors, so you can get a couple of pairs if you need to match several outfits.

These essential skimmers are another good flat option, and you can pretty much wear these shoes with anything. Lots of neutral colors or a shiny patent leather!

And if you’re lucky enough to be in a warm place where you still break out the leggings or jeans, these cute ruffled sandals would also work really well.

Just because everyone else pairs boots and leggings doesn’t mean that you have to. Try mixing it up and see what combos work for you.

Sandals are my favorite summer shoe. Of course you can pop them on to run to the store or whatever, but sandals come in formal styles, too. They’re basically appropriate for every warm-weather occasion. So here are some formal-style sandals you can try for your next big event!

This strappy gold or silver dress sandal is just beautiful. And very feminine and delicate. You can pair these with a long evening dress, a short cocktail dress, or a skirt set for an evening of dancing under the stars. (Or wherever you’re going.)

The patent buckle sandal will shine wherever you go. The ankle straps give this sandal a more secure fit, but they’re still fun and feminine. I love the look of patent leather with dresses or skirts.

Another t-strap sandal, but this one is a slide, so you can just slip your feet in and go. The heel is low enough to be comfortable and high enough to be flattering. These slides work with dresses, and the metallic neutrals are nice to pair with brown or gray pants, too. But don’t forget the patent black!

One of my favorite things about summer are all of the ornate and embellished sandals that are available. There is nothing more luxe than elaborate sandals, but you have to be careful that your polish doesn't overpower them.
