Fashion Trend Watch: Booties

By Silhouettes · May 6, 2011 · 0 Comments · 6 Views

You can’t wear sandals all the time, even in summer (although I try!). Sometimes your outfit requires actual shoes. One of the hottest trends for 2011 is booties—low boots that work with almost everything. And the great thing is, you can wear these in every season, too.

Something like this patent-leather trimmed suede boot is one example. The blue version would pop, and the black version would go with everything.

A simpler option is the classic shoe bootie, which would look fantastic with trousers or a short skirt and tights.

And for a casual look with jeans, khakis or leggings, these low-heeled laceup booties are a must have.

What’s your favorite bootie look?

Shoes for Weddings

By Silhouettes · May 2, 2011 · 2 Comments · 19 Views

With four weddings to attend this year, I’m on the hunt for cute wedding shoes to go with the cute dresses I’ve picked out. I’m going to one in May, one in September and one in October (in Florida), so fancy sandals are going to be my shoe of choice. I’ve been checking out my options.

I like t-strap slides a lot: slipons, low heel (for comfort), but still strappy and sexy.

But then I also like slingback heels. These are delicate and feminine and fun.

And who doesn’t love shiny patent leather?

Shoes are one of those things that can really make or break an outfit and set a mood. But we all know how badly shoes can affect your fun when you feel your feet start to hurt. That’s the other good thing about sandals...just slip them off to let your feet cool down a bit, and then hop back up for more fun.

Strap in

By Silhouettes · March 4, 2011 · 0 Comments · 7 Views

To complement your hats and bags, everyone needs a pair of strappy sandals. So beach-y and casual, fun to wear on the boardwalk or to the shops.

Strappy sandals come in different varieties. One such variety are “t-straps” (which are named for their design. Obvious, right?) Anyway, t-straps are super trendy right now, but always classic. These rhinestone-embellished pairs make a perfect compliment to your maxi dresses and beach coverups, and they come in a bunch of colors.

Cage sandals
are named for their design, too. A cage for your foot! It doesn’t SOUND great, but they look pretty awesome and are one of this spring and summer’s trendiest look.

And gladiator sandals have been hot for a couple of seasons, but they don’t show signs of going out of fashion. This pair has a jewel embellishment that makes them sparkle.

Strap into sandals and enjoy the ride!

Shoes for Spring

By Silhouettes · February 14, 2011 · 0 Comments · 30 Views

So I know spring is still weeks away, but hey! The groundhog didn’t see his shadow this year, so we’re going to go with wishful thinking and plan for spring shoes in February.

I mean, you can wear these shoes in the winter, too, but with ice and slush and salt everywhere, you probably don’t want to.

Celebrate the return of daffodils and other spring flowers with these pretty Zipper Flower flats! I imagine wearing them with a pair of jeans or khaki pants for a day out, or pairing them with more formal pants for a day at the office.

Cool platform pumps give you a boost! I like the platform base that these shoes have, in addition to the heel. They also have the shiny patent leather look that turns heads. Wear these with a skirt to work or any pair of pants you own, even jeans!

So you’ve got your pumps and flats, but don’t forget the slingback! These shoes have a trendy peep toe and a sexy bow to finish them off in style. Wear them with a dress, skirt, or nice pair of pants this spring.

Shoe Mania

I’ve seen some crazy shoes out there lately – the kind that you can barely stand in, let alone walk in. But people will wear very interesting things in order to be trendy, no doubt. High heels, crazy platforms—whatever it takes to be cool.

For some of us, though, crazy trendy shoes may look cool—but we only want to look at them on other people. We don’t actually want to wear them ourselves as we go about our daily lives.

I found some compromise shoes—the kind that look trendy without making you feel as though you’re about to fall over. I found a few good looking pairs that can add some style to your fall wardrobe without causing sprained ankles.

These Spectator shoes are stunning suede with vintage details that make them unique and eye-catching, too. You can wear them like you would wear ankle boots or other “low” shoes.

And these Victorian lace-up pumps, also in suede, have fun ribbon ties and are super-chic. Wear them the same way you would wear traditional pumps.

Another old-fashioned (but trendy) look are these button-detail booties. Wear them like you would any other pair of ankle boots for some fun flair.

One of the fun fall fads this year is animal prints—specifically a touch of animal print in an outfit to spice it up. Shoes are a great way to add some animal prints to an outfit without overwhelming your look with leopard spots.

I want to talk about three pairs of shoes that pull off the animal print thing really well—they’re a nice way to start incorporating the look even if you’re not ready to go all out.

These mock-croc leopard print slip-ons would look great paired with black pants. They add a splash of fun.

Another subtle animal print shoe are these leopard cuff booties. They’re mostly black, but then—surprise!—a leopard print cuff. They’re a lovely plush suede and you could rock them with jeans or any other pair of matching pants.

And finally, if you want to be crazy bold, these leopard print cowboy boots. They’re stylish and very eye-catching. You’ll probably be the only one with a pair of boots like this!

Other ways you can add animal prints to your outfits? Keep your eyes peeled for bags, scarves and other accessories that can add a touch of excitement.

Free Your Toes!

Today we’re going to talk about one of my favorite things: shoes! As a plus size woman, the way clothes fit is a big deal. You have to find flattering cuts, think about comfort and style, size, and how the clothes fit your body. But shoes? They’re a lot a simpler. You can wear almost any style without thinking about it too much. Usually you only have to worry about the weather. So, now that summer is here, I’ve put my cute boots away in the closet and taken out the flip-flops and slides. Hooray for free toes and pretty nail polish! Plus it’s always easier to just slip your feet into slides in the morning—putting on tights and boots just takes longer. Two of my favorite kinds of summer shoes are the slides I already mentioned and espadrilles. I need a wide width shoe, but fortunately silhouettes.com has plenty of those. Tons of cute styles in the right sizes. I love the Knot Wedge Espadrille (currently on sale). It goes great with basically everything: skirts, capris, shorts, jeans, or casual dresses. The canvas is soft, so the top doesn’t cut into your feet, it’s got peep toes (show off that pedi!), and the low heel is really flattering. The other shoe I want to highlight for right now is this fun Button Slide that’s on sale for only $16! (For that price, you can stock up on all the colors.) The pink ones are especially fun. These slides go great with almost every kind of outfit, too, and the patent leather shine really makes them stand out. So, what are you waiting for?

Go find some new shoes!

Fall 2009 Footwear Preview

By Sarah Conley · July 22, 2009 · 3 Comments · 392 Views

The arrival of next season's styles also means the arrival of every girl's favorite accessory - shoes! Whether they're suede boots or metallic flats, it's time to think about which styles you'll be sporting. Gunmetal grays are a hot trend for early fall. If you haven't started planning your wardrobe, we recommend considering the following styles:

Ghillie Pump - $49 Menswear is a huge trend this fall (as you might have noticed from our Fall Fashion Preview post). These spectator-styled open oxfords are the perfect marriage of masculine paired with feminine in an easily, wearable 2" heel.

Essential Skimmer - $29 Honestly, you can't go wrong with a classic flat in fashion colors. There's a reason it's named the "Essential" - it is an essential component to your wardrobe this fall. The only question is how many colors do you want?

Demi Wedge Pump - $59 A new twist on a fall classic, the Demi Wedge is styled in black, emerald and gray. Instantly update any outfit with these runway-inspired pumps.

Three Buckle Riding Boot -$149 Trend-right wide calf boots are tough to find, especially once fall arrives. Silhouettes carries styles in calf widths up to 17" and we suggest snagging your size before they're gone!

What styles will you be wearing?
