Best Looks for Spring

By Silhouettes · April 18, 2011 · 1 Comment · 33 Views

Well, if it ever gets warm enough, you may be able to turn in your coats for some beautiful cascade cardigans!

This one is retro and floral and flattering, easy to wear over a t-shirt or other fitted shirt. It will carry you well into summer, too, if you need a cardigan for those days at work when the office is chilly.

Another idea is this striped version, which layers over just about any outfit, and because it’s black and white, it goes with just about every outfit, too.

And once you’ve got the cardigans, you can pair them with a yoke skirt like this one. It’s made of comfortable jersey material that works well for work or for hanging out around town.

Jersey is actually a great all around option for lots of different clothes. Most people think of it for t-shirts, but here it is in a cardigan. And here are some flattering (and very comfy) jersey knit pants.

Short sleeves for spring

By Silhouettes · March 25, 2011 · 0 Comments · 10 Views

Today was 65 degrees here and I went without a coat for most of the day. It was amazing! And I realized that I could be wearing short sleeves more often if I had more options. I buy a lot of plain t-shirts in different colors, but today’s trends lean more toward cool embellishments and other fun flair.

One way to add some flair to a t-shirt is like this, with a beaded neckline. The beads add a cool look to a simple gray or white tee.

Another option is rosettes, like on this v-neck. Or choose the version with the abstract painted figure to add some pop.

What kind of embellishments do you like to see on your t-shirts?

Time for Linen

By Silhouettes · March 7, 2011 · 0 Comments · 8 Views

Since spring is on its way, it’s time again to think about linen. This lightweight cotton fabric is great for warmer weather, loose-fitting clothes, and can be layered over other pieces really easily (which is good for spring days with varying temperatures).

A short-sleeved linen shirt like this one works well on its own, but you can also layer it over a tank top or cami and mix and match colors to contrast with each other.

When you wear a long-sleeved shirt, pair it with a vest like in the photo, roll the sleeves for a casual look, or wear it over any tighter-fitting shirt for an extra layer.

And these lightweight linen pants are perfect for when it’s not quite warm enough for shorts or a shorter skirt. If you tend to be heavier in the hips and thighs, the wide legs on these pants are flattering and slimming, too.

So when you’re thinking about clothes for spring, don’t forget a few pieces of classic linen!

Hats and Bags, Oh my!

By Silhouettes · March 2, 2011 · 0 Comments · 89 Views

I recently returned from an amazing Hawaiian vacation (and I’m a little sunburned) so I have hats on the brain...and what goes better with a hat than a sweet bag? Pairing hats and bags is classic and fun—they don’t have to match completely (it’s usually better if they don’t) but coordinating them is a perfect way to accessorize.

This turquoise floppy hat is a colorful addition to your wardrobe and goes well with neutrals like taupe and white. It keeps the sun off beautifully, too. It’s lightweight, and ties on to specifically fit your head.

You can trim your hats with scarves, as seen in this sweet brown hat. It comes with a chic animal print scarf tied around it, but you can always add your own scarf to any hat.
As for bags, these big straw bags are great for the beach or any warm weather getaway. Towels, sunscreen, sandals and a change of clothing can all go into this big bag. You can’t go wrong with a carry-all like this.

Beach Wear

By Silhouettes · February 21, 2011 · 0 Comments · 20 Views

It’s only February, but a couple of 65-degree days in my area have me pumped for spring, summer, and all those days where you can run outside without bundling up. And of course, dreaming of all that time you can spend on the beach.

And then I saw some warm weather dresses. The great thing about dresses is how versatile they are—they’re not just formalwear. Because they’re cool and flowing, casual dresses are great as a beach wear!

Something like this tiered dress is a good example. Wear it while stretching your legs on the boardwalk or going out for dinner. It can be dressed up or down, too, depending on what the situation requires.

Another beachy option is a cool cover up dress like this one. Throw it on over your bathing suit or just wear it casually. The embellished neckline and trendy style make this one better than just another cover up.

And finally, maxi dresses are just about perfect for the beach. You can wear them as cover ups, but you can just wear them on their own, too. A boldly printed maxi dress like this one adds some style to your beach wear.

Shoes for Spring

So I know spring is still weeks away, but hey! The groundhog didn’t see his shadow this year, so we’re going to go with wishful thinking and plan for spring shoes in February.

I mean, you can wear these shoes in the winter, too, but with ice and slush and salt everywhere, you probably don’t want to.

Celebrate the return of daffodils and other spring flowers with these pretty Zipper Flower flats! I imagine wearing them with a pair of jeans or khaki pants for a day out, or pairing them with more formal pants for a day at the office.

Cool platform pumps give you a boost! I like the platform base that these shoes have, in addition to the heel. They also have the shiny patent leather look that turns heads. Wear these with a skirt to work or any pair of pants you own, even jeans!

So you’ve got your pumps and flats, but don’t forget the slingback! These shoes have a trendy peep toe and a sexy bow to finish them off in style. Wear them with a dress, skirt, or nice pair of pants this spring.
